AN ACCESSIBLE SAFARI ACROSS KENYA: CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF LOVE

In October 2025, Lorna Safaris had the privilege of curating a deeply meaningful Kenyan Safari for a special couple celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. The journey was thoughtfully designed with accessible travel in mind, as the husband is a wheelchair user. Our priority was to ensure comfort, dignity, and a truly immersive safari experience from start to finish.

The journey began in Nairobi, with a visit to the Giraffe Center and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a gentle and inspiring introduction to Kenya's conservation efforts. From the beginning, we provided a custom-modified Safari Jeep, adapted for easier access, secure seating, and smooth travel across varying terrains. Our experienced driver-guide is trained in accessible travel support, offering assistance professionally throughout the journey.

From Nairobi, the journey continued North to Samburu National Reserve, where dramatic landscapes and wildlife made for unforgettable game drives. The couple then travelled to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where they experienced one of the most touching moments on the trip- an interaction with Baraka the blind rhino, a powerful reminder that resilience and strength come in many forms.

The journey flowed on to Lake Nakuru National Park, known for its rhinos and flamingos, before heading to the iconic Maasai Mara, where expansive plains and abundant wildlife delivered classic safari moments. A peaceful break at Lake Naivasha allowed time to relax and reconnect, followed by breathtaking views of elephants beneath Mount Kilimanjaro in Amboseli National Park. The adventure continued through the vast wilderness of Tsavo East and Tsavo West, completing a truly comprehensive Kenyan safari.

Throughout the trip, we worked closely with carefully selected hotels and lodges that offer accessible rooms and facilities, including step-free access and adapted bathrooms, ensuring the guest’s comfort at every overnight stop. Thoughtful pacing, smooth route planning, and attention to detail allowed the couple to enjoy each destination without feeling rushed or fatigued.

The safari concluded back in Nairobi, where the couple marked their 30 years of marriage — a beautiful celebration of love, shared adventure, and dreams fulfilled.

At Lorna Safaris, this journey reaffirmed our belief that safari travel should be inclusive and accessible to all. With expert planning, trusted partners, and genuine care, we make it possible for every traveler to experience the magic of Kenya.

Lifetime disabled bucket list experience in Kenya. Tops any other holiday. Never go to a Zoo again.

Sep 2025 • Couples

My wife, Sue and myself planned this trip, 18 months prior. Being disabled in a wheelchair was a challenge but with all the planning with Judy at Lorna Safaris this became a dream and a tick off our bucket list.
We went with an open mind with no great expectations. Well, we were blown away with 21 days in Kenya, including 18 days on safaris, allowing us to see the culture and wild animals without being personally exhausted.
Our guide, Dan did a wonderful job explaining in every aspect the culture, wild animals and worked with us to make our stay very memorable.
Judy from Lorna Safaris also spent the time with us on safaris and also contributed so much knowledge. Both Judy and Dan appreciated our Aussie slang which made it all a very happy family.
We saw all the big five, plus so many other wild animals. We missed out, only on the African wild dog which are extremely hard to see.
Judy arranged and paid all accommodation, meals, park entrance fees so we only had to pay for our drinks. That was a bonus as we didn't have to stress, just enjoy.
The quality of our accommodation was superb, meals were great with so much selection and naturally the ability to go to so many reserves, we saw it all.

We would recommend Lorna Safaris 120 % out of 100%
